Combined internet and face-to-face treatment of alcohol dependency

BLEND-A examines the clinical effectiveness of a combined digital and face-to-face treatment approach for alcohol use, as well as users’ experiences of it

The Blended Care for Alcohol Use Disorder (BLEND-A) project is a multi-year research initiative that evaluates and implements a new treatment approach in the field of alcohol use. The treatment combines in-person attendance in addiction services with internet-based therapy. This approach, known as “blended care,” has been implemented in several countries, including the Netherlands, Sweden, and Norway, and the treatment outcomes are promising. Evidence suggests that combining online training with in-person sessions improves access to treatment, supports retention in treatment programs, and reduces missed appointments. There is only limited experience with blended care in alcohol treatment in Denmark.

BLEND-A will investigate whether the option to combine in-person treatment with digital elements increases the likelihood of completing treatment, and it will also examine how such an approach is experienced by both patients and practitioners.
