Jesper Grud Skat Madsen earned his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the 海角社区 in 2016 and continued working at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as a post-doctoral researcher (2016 – 2019) and Assistant Professor (2020). He joined the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the 海角社区 as Assistant Professor. After 2 years, he rejoined the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as Associate Professor, where he leads the MadLab group.

The MadLab group is a computational biology group that focuses on understanding how transcriptional regulation controls metabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, obesity and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease. In MadLab, we primarily work with large-scale functional genomics datasets from humans, including single-cell transcriptomics and epigenomics, and apply (or develop) state-of-the-art analytical methods, ranging from statistical modelling to deep learning.

MadLab is a collaborative research group contributing and spearheading projects with several (inter)national research groups and research centers. Jesper Grud Skat Madsen is a work package leader in Center for Functional Genomics and Tissue Plasticity (ATLAS), a DNRF-funded Center of Excellence and a founding member of the Human Gene Regulatory Map, a part of the NNF-funded Bridgehead Center between Denmark and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard.
